New York State Rifle & Pistol v. Bruen
On June 23, 2022, the Supreme Court of the United States issued its ruling in New York State Rifle & Pistol Assn. v. Bruen, Superintendent of New York State Police. It was a landmark decision in the history of gun control in the U.S., overturning state laws for concealed firearms and establishing that the Second Amendment grants people a right to personally carry weapons for self-defense and don't need to prove a pressing need for them (as the New York state law it struck down required).
Gun rights activists hailed it as major victory for the right to carry arms. Gun control and law enforcement groups said the ruling had made America a more dangerous place overnight.
